How To Get Followers When No One Knows Your Blog
Starting a new blog – whether for a business or as a hobby – is always exciting. You are brimming with ideas and possibilities. You know you have an interesting point of view. You have content ready to go. But then a question arises – how will you get people to read it? Consider the following five questions in order to increase traffic and subscribers to your blog.
- Is your design appealing?
Your site is your bread and butter – it must be visually appealing, professional, and easy to navigate. Blogs that have too many distracting ads, difficult to read fonts, and a confusing layout will have an exceptionally high bounce rate. Get people to stick around by appealing to aesthetics and making reading a pleasant experience.
- Who is your audience?
Create an audience persona. Think about who your target audience member is, how they go about their day, where they congregate on social media, and what they care about. Consider the following characteristics to start: their age, gender, profession, income, and hobbies.
- What does your audience want?
Before diving into what you want to say, ask yourself what questions your audience needs answering? Does your content help them? Check out sites like Quora and type in the subjects you tackle in your blog to see the most common questions about them.
- What are your keywords?
Figure out what keywords are trending for your subject (and your own blog if you already have data). Tailor your posts around your keywords as well as your target demographic’s questions for optimized SEO. But don’t go too far – nobody likes a keyword stuffer!
- What is the incentive to subscribe?
Always make sure to have a call to action, but sweeten the pot. Your content may be relevant and interesting to your reader but they may need an extra nudge to actually sign up. Offer them something for their subscription that will be useful for them – for example a free template or ebook.
If you have answered all of these questions and implemented the results, you will be well on your way to increasing traffic to your blog and gaining an audience of loyal followers.
