About

With its variations and infinite range of nuances - from black, white, apricot, acid green, all the way to red and blue - marble is the undisputed star of the Missoni women’s winter 2015 collections. Once again, Missoni is forging ahead with its personal mix of fashion, art and design, finding this natural element with its infinite nuances to be the perfect source of inspiration.

Thus, soft, enveloping fabrics have been created, featuring contrasting veined patterns on black, powder pink or ice blue backgrounds, making for trompe l'oeil effects inspired by the works of Vanessa Beecroft. Specifically, that piece of hers that features the bodies of women in colourful marble as a contrast to pedestals and bases in different nuances; there are still other women who seem to want to blend in, camouflaging themselves against the pedestals and bases.

And then there are the patterns, geometric shapes and refined asymmetries of the post-modern artist Richard Artschwager, which are evoked in the working of marble-like knits and fabrics. They instill a sense of solidity and intensity to the tight tailoring seen on models who emphasize the sophisticated and contemporary naturalness of the Missoni woman for winter 2015.

This is the concept behind the campaign shot by Viviane Sassen, with art direction by M/M Paris, in the marble quarries of Carrara where the colours and the patterns in the collection mix and overlap with the nuances of the slabs of marble, resulting in high-impact images and a certain timeless elegance.
